August Style: Classic Chinoiserie

It seems as though home decor trends come and go quicker than ever before. Over the last several years, we’ve seen a resurgence of a variety of styles that were popular in the mid to late 1900s. Some styles, however, have stuck around and earned the title of “timeless.” One of those is chinoiserie.

Rooted in European design, Chinoiserie is inspired by Chinese and East Asian art. It’s expressed differently depending on the region, and is related to Rococo style. Pieces within this style often feature nature and leisure as the subject matter, with asymmetry and ornate decorations.

Century Furniture recently showcased a new family of styles at the Spring Market. Each is a wonderful expression of the beauty and quality Century is known for. This month, we’d like to highlight one of the style collections they refer to as as Classic Chinoiserie. Here’s a bit about the style as told by Century Furniture:

Chinoiserie décor and classic black and white textiles equals crisp and classic rooms. It is the white button down shirt and choker of home design. Confident yet youthful, fanciful and chic. You simply can not get this wrong. Add in a touch of taupe for good measure just to keep them guessing.

With rich history dating back to the 17th century, it’s no surprise Century Furniture wanted to highlight the beauty of chinoiserie. This new collection is a fresh, modern take on the classic style and can be beautifully integrated into any space.
