Featured Pieces: Clarence & Betty

Pieces with midcentury modern inspiration have become a staple in the offerings of many home furnishings brands. One brand which has always been at the forefront of modern design is Thayer Coggin. We often take time to feature some of our favorites throughout the year. In this article, we’re highlighting a pair of lounge chairs – the Clarence and the Betty.

Originally designed in 1964, the Clarence is a high-back lounge chair that boasts quintessential midcentury modern style. A newly developed, semi-attached foam/trillium back and a luxurious poly blend down seat have updated this classic for maximum lounging comfort. The maple wood base can be adorned in any Thayer Coggin wood finish, or you can opt for a metal swivel base. No matter the design, Clarence makes for a wonderful addition to any casual living space. It’s bold and statement-making, yet comfortable and cozy.

Refined and sophisticated, the Betty lounge chair is a timeless classic. Designed in 1968, it features a steam-bent plywood frame, luxurious poly blend down seating, and a solid walnut base. The base can be graced in one of three finishes: natural, black, or grey. The Betty chair is a wonderful choice for a more formal living space. A pair of matching ones would be wonderful!

Both Clarence and Betty can be upholstered in any Thayer Coggin curated fabric or leather, or you can select and provide your own fabric.
